Don’t do this at home. One should never get the laser even only close to the eyes.

A few months ago someone was ‘flashing’ a laser across our building … I called the police.
Turns out a 14yo lad had bought a ‘diode laser’ off the webz using his mum’s credit card …
I say ‘diode laser’ like I knew what it meant, but it was one of those ‘thingys’ they use to illuminate rock concerts – normally pointed skyward!!

      • BearnieZardoz

How did they find the culprit?

        • Johnny Alpha

Sorry, you can’t see laser beams?

          • BearnieZardoz

The way I said it, I thought you didn’t know who it was and I didn’t see that the little jerk was still bizi with it by the time the cops arrived (I once called the cops because some weirdo in the flat next to ours was dragging his wife out of the small kitchen window – maybe that’s a fun thing to do in his home country and it took them 45 minutes to arrive).

I’d say most of the time at night when idiots with laser pointers are using them at helicopters that most of the pilots are generally associated with some type of law enforcement agency, generally speaking. They have amazing tools to find people, especially when a laser pretty much… pinpoints where they are using it from.

Ah! no – the twat was still ‘playing’ with it when des flics turned up!
That’s another weird thing – here in France we have ‘Police Municipal’, ‘Police National’, the ‘Gendamerie’ which is military & the ‘CRS’ which is the riot squad .. I got the CRS!! 0_o

          • BearnieZardoz

Oh there are the police and the gendarmerie, which everyone considers as stupid (see the Movie series “Taxi”) and then 4 niveaus below is the knuckle draggers of the CRS.

          • Johnny Alpha

let’s try that a different way – “knuckle draggers of the CRS” –
            “yes, sir”

lasers are rated in classes. less than 5mw is considered safe and most pointers fall under this. problem is the ebay chinese models are sometimes way overpowered. I use lasers on a daily basis and have machines up to 100 watts…which is roughly 20,000 times more powerful than a laser pointer.

      • BearnieZardoz

I rather generalise and warn, than someone with an eBay Chinese model feels it doesn’t apply to him 😉

Also, I do not know if cats might be more in danger or not. And I am over-protective of cats.

        • Justin Geer

im just stating facts. cute as extra safety is for our pets, laser pointers are bonded to cats and will be. Its better to warn of dangers because people are going to do this anyways. The dangers of lasers apply all too well to me. Im not above the laws of physics and follow them religiously.

So, we agree to agree 😉
