He is such a great guy …. and non-religious. Living proof you don’t need religion to be good and to be loved by practically everyone for your life ethics.
So, ‘up yours’, Jesus freaks 😉

Religion does have some good ideas, it is when you take it too seriously that things start to get weird.

      • perthaussieguy

Agreed and there are fanatics in all walks of life.

The problem is that good or bad if you’re a believer you don’t have a real choice in following the instructions, you are made to disregard actual morals because gods rules are rules, humanism with good ideas or bad ideas are just that, human rules and as such can be adapted when human insights change, the religious rules good or bad are there forever

        • Dragonofarbitration

The idea of mass belief should have faded a long time ago. That we need to worship something or make sacrifices so that the sun will rise or that the crops will grow is clearly horseshit. Religion evolved into the opiate of the masses(KM).

I have no problem with religion if you maintain it yourself. I tend to have issues when people start trying to control others in the name of religion.

      • BearnieZardoz

This applies to all good ideas of mankind. Like communism is great, so long as no one takes it *really* serious.

      • Ara Raven

Exactly. I tend to have very few issues with most religions. Some of them are really quite lovely. It’s the fans that I just can’t stand.

The core message of most religion is “don’t be a dick” but…
Religion wants to survive, so religion basically says it’s ok to be a dick to anyone who isn’t making more little converts when they could. That’s why these are considered bad:

        -Masturbation
        -Homosexuality
-Any kind of sex that doesn’t make more little adherents
        -Abortion

Oh, they never actually come right out and say it’s ok to be a dick to people who do those things, but it’s implied. You’re supposed to be nice to someone’s face, but if you vote the way you’re supposed to, all the things above will be illegal. And that’s about the dickiest thing you can do is vote someone into office who’ll try to fuck up that person’s life.

Also, any religion that says that “God is love, but if you make the wrong mistake you will burn for eternity” is just plain psychotic and will be abandoned eventually.

Keanu 2020! I can already think of the perfect running mate and the campaign slogan “Be Excellent To Each Other”.

    • Raedwulf

Sorry, can’t be president. Born in Lebanon, raised in Canada.

      • Carlos the Dwarf

His father was a U.S. citizen, so I think Keanu qualifies as a U.S. citizen. I’m no expert, but that seems to be what this site says, https://citizenpath.com/faq/parent-us-citizen/

        • Haze1nut

He doesn’t. It’s not automatic. You still have to meet certain requirements, as mentioned in the link you provided. In his case, his american father wasnt living in the US 5 years prior to his birth. It’s why he needs a green card.

          • Carlos the Dwarf

I am not privy to the details of his father’s living arrangements.

          • Haze1nut

Neither am i. But i know reeves holds a green card and his parents met and lived in Lebanon, where he was born, so it wasnt exactly hard to put 2 and 2 together, as that’s pretty much the only thing that disqualifies you from automatic US citizenship when one of your parents is a birthright citizen. No one gets a green card over automatic US citizenship just for shits and giggles.

          • Carlos the Dwarf

If his father didn’t register Keanu’s birth at a U.S. consulate or embassy; then it could have been easier to obtain a green card than to establish his claim to U.S. citizenship, since he identifies as Canadian, he might not have wanted to bother. This reference from the Wiki article is interesting. “Keanu Reeves inherited U.S. citizenship through his American father and British citizenship through his English mother. While living in Canada, Reeves became a naturalized Canadian citizen. All three nations—U.S., Britain, and Canada—accept the concept of multiple citizenships, so he is able to bear all three contemporaneously”, http://people.canadiancontent.net/actors/Keanu-Reeves.html. I am not a constitutional scholar or an immigration attorney, but it seems like he might be eligible for the office. Given his, apparent, integrity, I doubt he would accept the job.

          • Haze1nut

Absolutely 100% not. Contrary to what Republicans like to parrot, obtaining a green card, is all but impossible without a qualifying sponsor of either an immediate relative or employer that can prove that youre the best/only candidate for the position. The lottery has been nonexistent since the last amnesty in the 80s. Even if he did have huge Hollywood conglomerates sponsoring him, it would’ve still been 100x easier to establish a claim through his father, which would’ve only needed to be proven via his father’s birth certificate and proof of his fathers residency time in the US prior to his birth. No need to register anything at any consulate or embassy. Green cards are extremely limited and difficult to obtain. Even with billion dollar lawyers handling the case. Just ask your first lady, who had to live and even work, in the US, without proper documentation for a while. Also not sure what wiki you got that from but wikipedia says “Reeves is entitled to British citizenship through his English mother. He holds Canadian citizenship[58] by naturalization. He grew up as a Canadian and identifies as such, and holds an American green card.[15][22][59] Reeves’ biological father was born in the United States but Reeves required a green card because he was not eligible to claim automatic citizenship by birth abroad to one United States citizen.”
