Not saying climate change isn’t real or anything, but explain to me what being an astrophysicist has to do with the study of earth’s climate…

The other guy said “science” didn’t specify any type. The very point that he called climate change a “scam,” shows that he is scientifically illiterate.
It’s like, a child telling an engineer to learn math. They aren’t mathematicians, but they have solid base of understanding.

While I completely agree with you, I have to say that, sadly, 99.9% of adults have nowhere near a solid base of understanding of math 🙂

I remember back in college, someone asked me how to find the area of a triangle. As a joke, I said:
          A squared + B squared = C squared.

          They believed me. -.-

          • apgrovas

Hahaha. Yup, I had to explain how to do a square binomial to somebody that was in her last year of college. And it took her a few hours to have it sink in. I almost cried 🙂

I also remember the time when in middle school my math teacher (My MATH TEACHER!!!) argued with me for an hour vehemently telling me that the number of grains of sand on the beach were infinite because since the tide came and went it took away grains of sand and brought back others, so you couldn’t count the total of grains of sand on the beach, thus they were an infinite number. I still, to this day cannot understand how she could remain hired as a math teacher 🙂

Haha to be fair – I forgot how lograrithms and derivatives work after HS and had to reacquaint myself recently.

Though, I am still surprised that I have to reach people about compounding (interest) sometimes.

We all forget stuff (I certainly have forgotten far, far more than the very, very little I do know in life), but when somebody goes step by step showing how (A+B)^2 becomes A^2+2AB + B^2 and repeats each step for several hours, explaining each step and you still can’t get it, the problem is not with forgetfulness, but somewhere else 🙂

Yup, I am the other .2%

Googled some more. Astrophysics usually require an understanding of atmospheric physics (atmosphere of celestial objects/planets, and how the Earth’s atmosphere affects their observations). It is a super broad subject.

Up-Vote for asking an honest question.

i am all for climate change
lets burn more coal and get nuclear
    the more the better
that way the human race will be extinct much earlier

    • Aidan Weiss-Rice

Nuclear isn’t really a contributor to climate change, and humans are more versatile than a lot of other organisms, so they will be one of the last to go, unfortunately
